TRIDENTCON CODE OF CONDUCT AND HARASSMENT POLICY

Codes of conduct and explicit harassment policies have become more common at conventions over the past couple of years, and although it's not a part of fandom I've been involved with, here's TridentCon's take on the matter.

As the convention organizer, it's my signature on the paperwork with the venue, and my reputation on the line.  Therefore, I am the final arbiter of what is and is not appropriate behavior at TridentCon.  I expect every attendee, regardless of age, to act with responsibility, courtesy, and professionalism at all times.  TridentCon staff will not tolerate harassment or disruption of any kind - that includes treating others poorly, flying into a rage because your character was killed, or anything else that TridentCon staff deems as disruptive or destructive toward the fun, family, welcoming community atmosphere we try to promote at TridentCon.

BEHAVIOR WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

* sexual harassment or unwanted sexual advances/attention

* inappropriate sexual language or imagery

* harassing photography

* use of racial/ethnic/sexual slurs or other demeaning language

* deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following

* disruption of the event

* destruction of property, or theft

* advocating for or encouraging any of the above

Attendees counseled on these issues are expected to comply immediately or face sanction and/or ejection.

TridentCon is still small, and as such, it has more in common with a house party than a huge hotel-spanning convention.  And, in that sense, it's my house - I have a responsibility to not only keep the party awesome but to protect those I've invited inside.  I have no qualms about counseling strangers regarding their unacceptable behavior, and my wife sure as hell doesn't either.

If you have a problem or see a problem, bring it to the TridentCon staff, who will deal with it immediately, whether it warrants a "dial it back" conversation or a straight-up ejection.  I will not hesitate to 1) ask you to leave the premises, 2) refund your ticket as I escort you to the parking lot, and then 3) wave sarcastically as you drive away knowing you won't be invited back.

We haven't had a problem at any of our previous events.  That doesn't mean something won't crop up, and we want to be ready for that eventuality.

Life is too short to hang out with jerks, and at TridentCon, we don't think you should have to.
